20 Cool Things You Need to Click On Today

Photo by HeyJulesStudio (it's available as a print!)

This week was a hot one in NYC. Probably the worst humidity we've had so far this season. To put it in perspective: I got a blowout on Wednesday a few blocks from my office, and after the ten minutes it took me to walk to work, it was ruined. First world problem, yes. But still--boo on you, humidity.

I'm still busy working on our big beauty issue at work, but had time for some fun stuff, too. I went to a "pink and white" wine tasting with some friends on Wednesday and learned that I actually do like rosé! (I thought I was the only person on the planet who didn't.) But nope--I'm now fully Team #YesWayRosé.

Holy crap. Ruined blowouts and a rosé epiphany. This may be the biggest #whitegirlproblems post I've ever written.

Anywaaaaaaay...this weekend, my family is heading to the lake. Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Snapchat (I'm alyssahertzig for both) to join in the fun!

Have a great weekend whatever you're up to. Here's a few fun links!

 • Love a versatile dress like this one! Throw on heels and it's totally work-appropriate; wear it with flat sandals--or even cute sneakers--and it works for errands, playdates, or a casual dinner.

• Just started reading the book Life After Life after seeing some major raves about it on social media. And then I saw that none other than Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl author) called it "one of the best novels I've read this century." Sold.

• A great piece clearing up some of the myths about sunscreen. (Cliff Notes version: Not wearing sunscreen is a million times more dangerous than wearing it. Slather it on, people.)

• After reading this piece on the one item you absolutely must ban from your kid's sleepover parties, I feel totally scared about my kids someday having sleepover parties.

• A top celebrity publicist gives some super juicy insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of A-list divorces. LOVED this. (h/t Nadine)

• Because I think all parents worry about whether or not their kids are going to grow to love reading--especially in these days of iPads and On Demand: how to raise a reader.

• The concept of "you have the same number of hours in the day as Beyonce" explained.

• Americans love to buy local--until it comes to seafood. Interesting piece about why the U.S. is importing its favorite fish--and exporting the "ugly" ones.

• 25 celebrities who started as models.

• The New York City Ballet held a special workshop for kids with special needs and it was a beautiful thing.

• As my friend Abby Gardner said: "I am not comfortable with a ponytailed Matt Damon." (Do you guys agree?)

• Laura from Hollywood Housewife is one of my very favorite bloggers. She's such a great writer. I loved this piece she recently shared about what kids end up remembering from their childhood. (Hint: It's often the small, random things!) Here's a snippet: "You just can't help what will stand out to them or what they'll remember forever. It most certainly won't be what you think it will. But here's the catch that has taken me a very long time to learn: all this stuff you do for your kids isn't always about your kids. How my mom remembers those years matters. That process of creating the Santa illusion wasn't just for me, it makes her memories magic, too."

• Cute tee for the gluten-free girl in your life.

• The trailer for this movie gave me CHILLS.

• Loved the Onion's take on moms on vacation.

• How to make cotton candy like a BOSS.

• Every state flag is wrong and this is why. (Ha!)

And in case you missed it, I...

• Shared the jewelry trend I'm totally obsessed with right now.

• Made my kids dress up in matching outfits, but oh em gee it was so worth it for these photos, right?

• Was voted "Super Mom of the Week!"

What a great collection of reads! There is something for everyone. The popsicle print is gorgeous and would look fantastic in a child's room or at a pediatrician's office.
